In Loving Memory of Jamie (1997-2007)

In loving memory of Jamie, 1997-2007Jamie loved life and didn't waste a minute of it. She always pushed herself, keeping busy even when she wasn’t feeling very well. To help pass the long hours spent in the hospital between chemotherapy treatments for high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Jamie would string together hundreds of beaded bracelets, featuring inspirational words. This determined young girl would even work into the wee hours of the night, using only the light from a flashlight so she wouldn't wake her mom, Robin, who always stayed by her side.

"Jamie loved to get gifts, but she loved giving them even more," shared Robin. "The first bracelets she made were all for her friends, nurses, other caregivers and her fellow patients."

Inspired by the popularity of her creation, Jamie started selling her bracelets to raise money to help other sick kids, and was able to give an initial amount of $2,000 to various charities seeking cures for pediatric cancer.

In early December of 2007, Jamie used an additional $3,000 from her bracelet proceeds to purchase and distribute 105 Build-A-Bear Workshop® teddy bears to her fellow patients. Just days later, on December 12, 2007, Jamie passed away.

Jamie's passion for raising awareness of pediatric cancer continues to inspire. This year, The Paint Box Project held bracelet-making parties in Jamie's memory. Patient-artists and their families gathered to remember the little girl known for her sense of humor and cheerful personality, and to string together hundreds of bracelets, all featuring the words that defined who Jamie was and what she believed in: Hope. Live. Love. Believe. Cure.
